Curriculum Overview

The Latham School offers an outstanding international education. Class sizes are kept small and will not exceed 25 pupils. This enables teachers to pay close attention to the progress of individual pupils.

We use a combination of National Curriculum (England) for Years 1-6 and the corresponding Early Years Foundation Stage for Reception classes, as well as the Cambridge International Core curricular in English, Mathematics and Science, to plan our teaching. We use this blend because it provides a broad and balanced structure for all areas of learning, in addition to giving an appropriate emphasis to the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. There is also plenty of scope for teachers to work with children’s interests and enthusiasms, but without sacrificing a planned and progressive route to their learning throughout each Key Stage. Our goal is always to produce a fully bespoke curriculum that meets the needs of every learner.

Teaching is organised in Stages.

  • Reception Class: Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Years 1 – 2: Key Stage 1
  • Years 3 – 6: Key Stage 2

We currently offer classes from Reception - Year 5, new classes will be added when there are at least 5 pupils to move to the next year group.

The structure of our curriculum is one many British international, and increasingly UK-based schools, follow as it is known to provide the grounding for young people to succeed in entering prestigious universities world-wide.

We believe that it is important to have a framework to provide continuity and progression in children’s learning.

Learning organised into Key Stages.

By the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programmes of study.

We aim to provide information about our curriculum to parents through our website. Please click on the documents that appear at the bottom of our Learning and Curriculum pages.
